River of Life Church is actually over 150 years old. Originally established on August 10, 1856 as the First Baptist Church, it has faithfully served the community of Hastings for over a century and a half. Hundreds of people have come to know Jesus Christ personally as Savior and Lord over those years.
There have been ups and downs. The history of First Baptist has been checkered with squabbles and splits, with the storms of life and even a tragic disaster or two, but it survived and at times thrived. And God has been faithful.
In the early 2000’s a sturdy group of people began to formulate a new vision, one that was centered on what God was doing, not on 5 year strategic plans. The new vision required change. And so this little church decided to “replant” itself to pursue the changes God had in store for it. Through a series of significant steps of faith a healthier, more vibrant church has emerged. One of those steps involved a change of name reflecting a new desire to be a river of blessing through which God could touch the city of Hastings. In 2003 the church changed its name to River of Life.
Since then God has been at work. Lives are being changed. We have changed. It is exciting to be in the middle of something that God is doing.
