Why We Worship

We worship God, because He alone is worthy

“God is God and I am not.” This realization is the first step toward genuine worship. Worship is something that belongs to God alone. He alone deserves it. Anything that we might take personal pride in; anything that we might admire in another person; anything that takes our breath away in amazement was something that did not first originate in me or in that other person or that subject of our awe. God either gave it or made it or patterned after His own nature. That’s why we worship Him.

Worship is how we show our appreciation for everything that God is and everything that God does. It is something that we give to Him… not something that we take from Him. So when we gather together, we praise what we know to be true about our God. We do this through music and prayer as we express our hearts to Him. And then all the rest of our days, by God’s grace and strength, we try to live the kinds of lives that are a credit to Him.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

John 4:23-24
